Quantity Surveying is about estimating and managing the cost and progress of a building project. This means becoming skilled at methods of measuring the quantity of materials a building requires, as well as estimating and controlling costs.
Whenever a building project is proposed, it is important that the cost involved is known in advance. These include site preparation cost, construction, labour, material and plant costs. professional fees, taxes and other charges as well as the likely running and maintenance costs for the new building. The Quantity Surveyor is trained to evaluate these costs and to advise on alternative proposals. Both in Malaysia and overseas, there is increasing demand for qualified quantity surveyors. Therea are job opportunities within quantity surveyor private practices, construction contractor organisations, property companies, public and private sector utilities and local authority organisations. In addition you will be able to contribute to a wide variety of professional offices that focus on cost consultancy, risk management, facilities management and project management. Diploma holders can spend 2 or 3 years in universities in UK and Australia. All these pathways will lead to the award of Bachelor degree in Quantity Surveying or its related specializations. |
