Two INTI students have been awarded the Merit scholarship by Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia.

The duo, Mao Yi Jing from Shanghai, China and Kuching lass Jasmine Law Chew Ling are both enrolled with the Australian Degree Transfer Programme (Commerce).

The scholarship consisting of a half tuition waiver for one semester of study is worth A$4,000 (approximately RM12,000). Both students will leave for the University in February 2005 to pursue degree studies. Mao will undertake double majors in Accounting and Economics while her peer Jasmine opted for Finance & Marketing.

Jasmine, a former student of SMK Green Road, Kuching revealed that her main reason for choosing INTI College Sarawak was because it is well established and recognised. “INTI has more twinning partners compared to other colleges,” she added. “Besides I can also meet students from other countries and learn about their culture.”

Jasmine pointed out that INTI’s affordable fees enabled her to obtain her degree in a cost-effective way.

As for Mao, she disclosed that it was upon her father’s recommendation that she studied at INTI College Sarawak. “My father works in Sarawak and he made the arrangements for me to come over.”

Mao found INTI to be a modern college with a conducive study environment. “The people in the college are friendly, helpful and honest and I do enjoy living here.”

On the secret of their success, the duo disclosed that it paid to work hard and be attentive in class. “My lecturers are very helpful and the library is full of reading materials which are vital for doing one’s assignments. In fact, INTI has better facilities compared to other colleges.”

The Australian Degree Transfer Programme (Commerce) is offered through the School of Business at INTI College Sarawak. Upon successful completion of this programme, a student may opt to further his degree studies in universities that accept INTI credits including Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Adelaide University, University of Wollonggong, Deakin University, University of Sydney and University of South Australia.
