Selection Criteria

The MBA program is academically rigorous and demands personal characteristics of high motivational levels, maturity, above-average intellectual ability and a commitment to success and managerial leadership.

Our aim is to provide the opportunity to achieve success in a competitive environment to those men and women with the professional experience, motivation and drive to perform at high management levels. For this reason selection of MBA candidates is not based solely on academic criteria. Applications for admission to the MBA will be considered on their merit.

Applicants for admission to the MBA must have:

1. Completed a degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s degree;
2. Completed at least one year of relevant professional work experience. (Applicants with outstanding academic results in their Bachelor degree may be considered for exemption from this requirement. Note: Such students may feel disadvantaged with assignment work, as they are not able to draw on their professional work experience);
3. Met the University’s English language requirement:
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band; or
  • TOEFL 550 with no less than 4.5 in the Test of Written English; or
  • Computer-based TOEFL 213 with no less than 4.5 in the essay rating, or equivalent.
4. Advanced standing may be granted where a candidate has successfully completed units at postgraduate level and which are substantially equivalent in content, standard and duration to units offered in the MBA program, provided that these units award. Advanced standing may be granted for up to 50 per cent of the program to which you are admitted. Applicants seeking advanced standing for previous studies must lodge with the application for admission:
  • An Application for Advanced Standing Form (available from the University website http://www.scu.edu.au/gcm/); or
  • A statement outlining the basis of your application for advanced standing for previous studies undertaken;
  • Detailed course outlines of previous studies and a certified copy of your academic results transcript.
