A Trip to SIAR beach, Lundu.

It was just one of this beautiful sunny days when the secretary of the ASA sent emails round to all the African Students on campus. There is going to be a trip to DAMAI Beach and  we were all to meet in H201 to discuss how and when the trip should be made, the message read.

The time and date for the trip was set. Everybody was overjoyed because of what the trip had for us. Among the recreational activities was mountain climbing, soccer, basket ball, swimming and the lot.

A week after all these arrangements were made, the members of the ASA were summoned to another meeting. The secretary, Mr. Anthony claret sent meeting invitations to all the ASA members. Plans for the trip to DAMAI Beach has been cancelled because of circumstances beyond the ASA's control. The ground was opened for suggestions and we came to a final conclusion. We all voted, and SIAR beach in LUNDU won the majority of votes.

Emails were again sent to all the ASA members reminding them about the trip which was set for the coming week. All preparations were made and we waited patiently for the D-day.

The D-day finally came. The INTI bus was our means of travel. A prayer was said before the trip. We got to a point that we had to cross a river on a ferryboat. We all got out of the bus and onto the ferryboat. This was done as a safety measure. We got to SIAR beach resort in about two hours and was surprised at the nature of the place. This place was isolated from the town. The place was very remote but it was good enough for holidays, anyway.

That night the girls cooked, and my God, the food was unquestionably  yummy. I have never tasted such mouth-watering meal in Malaysia. We all settled under shed and played some games after we ate. Some played soccer and cards. Other including myself, went swimming.

Mosquitoes and fire-flies had a “field day” that night. Some of us decided to stay awake to see whether there will be a high tide at night because we were very near the sea. Surprisingly enough, the sea drew back. The tide was very, very low. We even walked on dry grounds thus on grounds originally covered with so much sea water.  This was some of the wonders the world has to offer us.

The first night was a pleasant one apart from the enormous bites we had from the sun flies and the mosquitoes. The next morning, most of us woke up late.  We were on holidays and that is what holidays are meant for; REST.

We spent most of the day at beach swimming. That evening, supper was served as usual. The president of the ASA organized a football tournament. This was the climax of the fun we had at SIAR beach. It was a well planed tournament. The girls and the guys had to team up. Wow!!! The girls really played so well.

When dark came, the sun flies and the mosquitoes came back. This time we were ready for them. We conquered them by giving them some doses of insecticides. We slept so peacefully that evening.

The next morning, we had our morning devotion together. The spirit of God was in the house. The president read the sermon and related it to our daily lives. That, I will say is a good attribute of a leader. He knows what his followers want, how they want it and when they want it.

That morning, some went swimming again for the very last time. This was the final day of our trip. We gathered all our belongings and waited for our bus. We took break fast and waited for the bus restlessly.

When the bus finally arrived, we parked our belongings into it and got settled. We thanked God for such a trip and we also prayed for safe journey back to Kuching.

We got to Kuching in about two hours time safe and sound.
